Child Has Fever, Wheezing, No Running Nose Or Cold. Correct Usage Of Frisium?

My son Name : Nihal
Age : 3 years 11 months
Weight : 19 Kgs
Desease : Down with fever since the last 2 days.
- Records high fever. No letup since 2 days.
- Snoring or gets wheezing sound in his breath.
- Initially he gets when fever started no running nose or cold.Only he gets
Previous History :
- He got Fits 3 times before when he had high fever. We are using FRISIUM for that.
- Got "typhoid" 1 year back and then took vaccination.
Medicine :
When we consult a paediatrician the same day of his fever, he prescribed
- ATM XL
- Cobadex B-complex syrup
- Anbutamol
- Actified Dm

Here are my Questions :
1. How to use FRISIUM Every time when he gets fever. One paediatrician prescribed to use it everytime along with the fever syrup. Where as some other told to use it first 2 days once the fever starts. Please let me know how to use it and when to use it. Can i use it even though the fever is down ? And what is the dosage 1 tablet or half ?

2. Please suggest the best paracetamol syrup. We have been giving crocin drops for the last 2 days. But there was no let up in the fever. Each time he records more than 100 F temparature. Some time records 103 F also. Doctor told to continue with crocin only when we told him we started with that.
Is it good to change the fever syrup to Ibugestic + syrup ?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Dear user,

Frisium is recommended for at least 3-5 days beginning with the onset of fever in children with past history of recurrent fever fits. The dose in your child would be half a tablet (of 5 mg, i.e. 2.5 mg) twice a day.

Every paracetamol is the same, provided you give him the correct dose, which is 15 mg/kg of his weight. Thus, he needs about 15 X 13 mg each time, which is nearly 200 mg. If Crocin has 100 mg/ml, give him 2 ml, and if it has 150 mg/ml, give him 1.3 ml each time his temperature is 100 F or more. Up to 4 doses can be given in 24 hours. Remember also to sponge the child with tap water to reduce the temperature.

Hope this helps.

Pediatrician Dr. Y V Siva Sankara Murty's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Yes frisium should be used for the first two days of fever to prevent further febrile seizures.
If the fever is persisting despite paracetamol your child requires to be examined by your doctor to arrive at the exact cause of fever.

Does he have any associated complaints like cough, cold or burning urination or increased frequency of urination etc?

Investigations like CBC, CRP, Peripheral smear for malaria, urine examination may be ordered by your doctor after physical examination
Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
