Child Has Fever. Seems Confused. Ate Little. Took Medicines. Suggestions?

Hi, 11 year old daughter has fever of 39.5 degrees celsius. Started feeling sick yesyerday, but no headache , flu symptoms . It is 01h06 in the morning here, going to ER difficult. She sleeps, wakes up and seems confused. We gave panado tablet at 6 hr interval, then chemist gave pynmed syrup which seems ineffective. She had had water throughout day, sipping ice sometimes, ate some meat for supper.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Fever could be because of various causes in this age group. It could be a virus or infection of the throat or urinary tract etc.

Does she have any other associated complaints?
Is there any history of sore throat or burning urination or frequency of urination?
Are there any chills or rigors?

Presence of lethargy, poor feeding, loss of consciousness or seizures etc indicates it is a emergency. One should take the child immediately to ER in such scenario.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
