Child has cough, wheezing, given prospan, duolin nebulizer, parent asthmatic. Right medicine?

Hi doc, my 17 mth old daughter has had quite a serious cough and a bit of wheezy chest. We have given her prospan which is a natural cough syrup but have also tried to give her 2.5 mg of duolin in a nebulizer. I have been asthmatic for almost 28 yrs and I can remember being her age an having nebulizers. However, was administering the duolin a good choice or is there perhaps an alternative? Hi Jon Atkinson,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

She needs examination by her Pediatrician to know the cause of her cough.

Cough is due to from a simple upper respiratory tract infection to a significant bronchospasm which is seen in hyper reactive airway problems.

Every cough usually doesn't require nebulization.

Physical examination by a Doctor is important to see whether there is wheezing is there or not.
Don't give medication without a doctor prescription.

Consult the Pediatrician for physical examination and for her treatment.

Hope I have answered your query.
