Child Has Cough, Vomiting And Fever. Want Antibiotic For Her

My daughter has been sick with a fever and cough and occasional vomiting (at least 2 times a day) since Sunday. There has been no runny nose. We saw her pediatrician Monday and she stated it was viral. The fever spiked to 103.7 that evening(the highest it has been) She is not eating only drinking. We went back to pediatricians yesterday and had lost 2 pounds since Monday. They tested for strep and white blood cell count elevations. Both were normal. Listen to her chest and said it sounded fine. She stated again it is viral. We are on day 5 and the cough is constant, still vomiting, and fever is still in the 101 plus. As a mother my gut is telling me it is something more and she needs an anitbiotic. How do I stress this to my ped. At what point do I call or see the ped. again? Any help would be great. My daughter is miserable. Thank you.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic,
As your daughter has been examined by Pediatrician and basic investigation ruled out any focus of bacterial infection, better to follow your Pediatrician advise.
As it looks like a viral, strep test was negative and WBC was normal there seems no indication for antibiotics.
Try to give plenty of oral fluids during febrile illness, give soft diet to maintain hydration and nutrition.
Look for her hydration status and still fever continues, then consultation with your Pediatrician is appropriate.
Hope I have answered your query.

Hi
Thanks for your query.
I can understand your concern for your child.
Viral fever sometimes take few days to settle and since you have consulted your pediatrician and tests are nagative so nothing to worry.
Give acetaminophen every 6 hourly if fever is above 100F.Maintain good hydration and nutrition, give plenty of fluids, fruit juices, coconut water, vegetable soup.soft bland diet.
She should take adequate rest.
If symptoms persist then you can get her re evaluated by doctor.

Wishing your child good health.
God bless..
