Child Has Concussion. CT Scan Normal. Forehead Twitching Normal?

My son had a collision with another baseball player head to head that knocked him out. We did go tomthe ER and they said he defiantly had a concusion even though the CT scan was normal. My question is he is having forehead twitching and I don,t know if this is normal. Of course he tells me he is fine but I know different. Please help!

Hi and thanks for the query,

A normal CT scan and normal neurologic status, with no apparaent headaches nor other behavioral problems is reassuring. Forehead twitching deserves being identified formerly by your neurologist and managed. It depends if he has experienced this before or not. I suggest you be calm for a couple of days. Persistence of this symptom, or onset of any new symptoms should motivate booking an appointment with a neurologist.

Thanks and kind regards.

Dear user, concussion is a type of neurological injury where you will not get any obvious findings on CT scan. It is just a clinical diagnosis based on signs and symptoms. Also no intervention is usually required to treat it. It shall resolve on its own. So if your neurologist says that your son is alright, he is correct. Don't worry.

Hi

Thanks for your query to Health Care Magic

Head injuries are broadly divided into 3 categories:
1.     Superficial soft tissue injuries of scalp
2.     Skull fracture
3.     Brain Injuries

Kindly note that all, even severe, scalp/skull injuries are not necessarily associated with brain injuries. Conversely, serious brain injuries may develop without evidence of external injuries or skull fractures. Hence it is important to watch for signs of brain injuries like unconsciousness, seizures, unequal pupil size, abnormal behavior, facial bleedings, vomiting and headache for more than 24 hrs.

Concussion is brief period of unconsciousness for few seconds/minutes that occur immediately after trauma, may be associated with amnesia. It is result of sudden brain movement and temporary failure of axon conduction

Generally the prognosis of concussion is good, a concussion lasting for more than 30 minutes or followed by neurological deficit on recovery indicates brain injury. Repeated concussion injuries can cause permanent brain damage.

In your son’s case, good thing is that CT scan is normal. Regarding forehead twitching, little twitching after a concussion is fine, it should ideally wave off in sometime but pediatric or neurological supervision is very important.

Hope that answers your query.

Wishing your son a quick recovery

Take Care :)

Hi, most probably the fore head twitching must be due to the head injury, I advise you to consult a neurologist for diagnosis and treatment. He may need to have an M.R.I.. after 24 or 48 hours, for confirmation or excluding the concussion. Thank you.

Welcome to HCM.
His ct-scan is normal than there is no need to worry.Forehead twitching and vertigo like feeling usually occur after this type of injury(concussion). It will take some time to subside.Don't worry.Give him proper rest.Drink enough water and other liquids like fruit juices, lemon water with salt and sugar.
