Hello Krishnan and welcome to HCM
You doctor gives you the best treatment. You have given the first dose of antibiotic 4-5 hours earlier and an oral administration of antibiotic takes about 12-24 hours to get into action. So not to worry and continue with same medication unless the frequency of loose stool increases and your son is unable to take oral fluid.
Keep your son hydrated, use only boiled water or RO filtered water.
Use ORS or electrolyte powder to get rid from electrolyte imbalance.
Give only fresh diet or juice.
This will surely helps you

Pediatrician, Cardiology Dr. Pradeep Kumar Jain's  Response
Hello
Your son is suffering from Acute gastroenteritis. Most of these gastroenteritis are due to viral infection and it usually subsides in 4-7 days. Just be watchful for danger signs like decreased oral intake, decreased urinary frequency, altered sensorium, stool mixed with blood or any other obvious symptoms as at times gastroenteritis may be life threatening due to fluid loss.
Give frequent ORS sips, continue feeding as before illness( can give rice, curd, banana etc, avoid fiber containing diet, cola, sugar containing foods etc).
You can also give
1)Zinc suspension 5 ml OD for 14 days( helps in earlier recovery from diarrhea)
2) Probiotic like Enterogermina 1 respule a day for 3 days
I hope this answers your query effectively.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
