Child. Burning, Stinging Sensation In Penis After Urination. History Of Swimming In High Ph And High Clorine Pool. Suggest

My 7 year old son just started complain about having a burning stinging sensation in his penis when he touches it or after urination. He was swimming in a pool that turned out to have a very high pH level and high chlorine level. prior to that he had no symptoms of irritation to the penis. I flushed the opening with sterile room tempurature lactated ringers and a sterile thin catheter just on the outer tip of his penis the catheter never made entery in any way. What can I do to help his discomfort and could this be as a result of the pool waster?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
it seems that he might be having uti or urethritis might be due to infection spread through swimming water.
Give him antibiotic medicine course after consulting your doctor.
Do not go for catheter by yourself as it may give some injury to urethra.
give him plenty of water.
ok and take care.

Pediatrician Dr. E Venkata Ramana's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Your child might have developed burning stinging sensation due to mucosal irritation of urethra due to the presence of chlorine in water.

Ask him to drink plenty of water.

Watch for any redness around his penis opening and if it is present you can apply a petrolatum jelly which will decrease the irritation.

I advise you not to put any catheter into the opening of penis as this will lead to urethral injury and infection.

Urine infection has to be ruled out by doing complete urine examination and urine for microscopy.

Prevent the exposure to chlorinated water by providing protected underwear.
Consult the pediatrician if the sensation persists for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
