Chest Pain. Done EKG And Echocardiogram. On Syntroid. What Does It Seem Like?

Hello,
I am a 46 year old woman with periodic achy chest pain (heart area). I am 142 pounds, basically good shape, have had a normal ekg and echocardiogram within the last two months. The only medication I am on is synthroid. The only new food/drink consumed is green tea a couple times per day.

What do you think?

Thanks.

Hello,
thanks for using health care magic.

Synthroid contains Levothyroxine which is a synthetic form
of the hormone thyroxine which is normally produced by the
thyroid gland. It is use for hormone replacement for people
with hypothyroidism.
The amount of the drug in the body should be optimal to
control the symptoms of hypothyroidism and should not be
in excess less it will cause hyperthyroidism which can present
with increase heart beat, chest pain around the heart and ra-
diating down the left arm.

Pain in the chest could also be due to digestive ( peptic ulcer) or
respiratory ( chest infection) or musculoskeletal.

You should consider seeing your doctor for review of
the drug dosage and other possible causes.

Best regards
Dr Achuo

General & Family Physician Dr. Luchuo Engelbert Bain's  Response
Hi and thanks for the query,
there are other common causes of chest pain that need to be excluded. Cardiac and lung causes are however the most common and usually the most serious. It is therefore very good news that these causes have formerly been excluded.
It is important to consider some other non cardiac causes of chest pain. Manifestations of disease from other system organs could falsely cause pain in the chest. Gatsroesophagal relux disease, pneumonias, and some liver diseases could falsely manifest themselves as chest pain. It is important to exclude inflammatory causes of chest pain like Costovertebral angle tenderness pain or otherwise called Treitz syndrome.
I suggest you book an appointment with an internist for a complete clinical review.
Thanks and best regards,
Luchuo, MD.
