Causes Of Having Mildly Swollen Lacrimal Caruncle Of The Eye With A History Of Dilation Of The Lacrimal Duct In Childhood?

My 17 year old daughter has mildly swollen, red lacrimal caruncle effecting only one eye. This has been going on a few days. She says it is itchy but not painful and no drainage or excess tearing. She had the lacrimal duct dilated as a baby because of stenosis, but no problems since that procedure 16 years ago. What are the possible causes?

Hi,
Thanks and welcome to HCM.
Most probably it is a case of mild dacryocystitis (inflammation of the lacrimal gland).
Give some antibiotic for few days
give warmth to the part
Antihistaminic like Cetzine daily for 3-4 days.
Antibiotic eye drops locally 4 times daily.
If no improvement consult Ophthalmic surgeon.
Hope this answer serves your purpose.
