Cat Bit The Finger On The Middle Joint. Diagnosed With Cellulitis. On Bactrim DS. Pain Reduced. Finger Swollen. Suggestions?

my sisters cat bit my finger right on the middle joint. the doctor diagnosed me with cellulitis of the hand and I've been on a generic for Bactrim DS for about 12 days now. the pain has decreased quite a bit and the swelling too. however my finger is still quite swollen Especially around the joint where the bite originated. Should I be concerned about the inflammation?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Generally, all the swelling should have subsided by this time (12 days after bite) with an antibiotic being used all these days.

I suggest you to get an xray done for the injured part just to ruleout any bony injury. Also keep your hand elevated and try to make finger movements to resolve the swelling. Intermittant moist heat fomentation may be useful.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
