Can Zinc Deficiency Cause Bad Taste In Mouth?

Periodically I get a bad taste in my mouth. There do not appear to be any apparent reasons, it suddenly starts. I was told by a Naturopath that a lack of zinc can cause this, but I have not been able to alleviate the taste by taking any zinc this time. Possible cause?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain yes, it is true that Zinc Deficiency can cause altered taste in mouth and in case if there is suspected cause of Zinc deficiency a Blood test can be carried out under supervision of an Oral Physician so that the cause can be ruled out..

Other common causes of altered taste can be Vitamin B 12 deficiency, teeth and gum infection, dry mouth, oral infections, post nasal drip, head injuries, nerve related problems etc..

Get a thorough clinical examination done and treatment can be done according to the cause diagnosed..
As of now you can chew flavoured sugar free chewing gums..
Gargle with flavoured antiseptic mouthwash..
Drink plenty of water..

In case if zinc deficiency is confirmed you will be advised Zinc Supplements..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
