Can You Please Suggest Me A Cure For Allergy Cough ?

Hello Doctor, We are residents of Hyderabad, in AP, India. My mom is aged 54 years and is suffering with Alergy cough since the last few year (atleast 10 I think). She has been using Alopathy medicines (from Dr. Deen Dayal in Hyderabad). But there hasn't been a permanent cure for this problem. Since the last 4 months she has been on Ayurvedic medicines and there isn't any improvement. She also has sinus problems and has followed all the food restrictions prescribed by her doctors. The symptoms are throat itchiness, irregular cough periods - some times it comes during the day, at night, no certain period. When she coughs, she coughs for a couple of minutes continuously and its loud. Its been a long time that she has been suffering with this problem for a long time now, the medication prescribed work for a short period and the problem comes back. She is tried and frustrustrated with the problem and the number of medicines she has to take, and I can't see her coughing any longer, I feel helpess and feel frustrated that it isn't getting cured. All the doctors that she has visited have always said that there is nothing wrong, its an alergy cough, but I am presuming there could be something else or this could lead to something. Please can you suggest a cure for this. Please help me!!!

I am a mother of a son who continues to have allergic cough spasms, it would be beneficial to you to purchase a allergen mask, a face mask that covers the nose and mouth area: it keeps the seasonal allergens away, this keeps the allergens out of your breathing area and will prevent your allergic cough from occurring. wear this mask in the places and times when you have noticed your coughing occurrances happen the most. always take an allergy pill in the morning to prevent a reaction as well. I hope this info works.

Hi Prasanna,
Welcome to HCM.
I can very well understand your concern for your mother's health.
Basically she should get a chest x-ray done and her blood should be checked for eosinophilia.
Tropical eosinophilia is a very common cause of dry cough in this part of the world and if diagnosed correctly, proper medicines are available to treat the condition.
Also get an E.N.T. surgeon to exclude any irritation causing pathology in the throat region.
I think proper systematic investigation should help her in relieving her chronic cough.
Wishing her all the best.
