Can We Wait For Sometime Before The 3rd Cycle For Acute Myeloid Leukemia?

My mother aged 64 years has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia(AML) and has undergone two cycles of chemo.after the first cycle the AML was in remission and subsequently the second cycle was administered.immediately after the second cycle the doctor was advising for a third cycle of higher dosage but my mother had become too weak to take the third cycle and has asked the doctor to wait till she comes to a better stage.how many such cycles would be required.each cycle has hospitalized for 20-25 days time.kindly advise reg the treatment.

Dear,
After remission is induced in acute myeloid leukemia it is to be followed by remission maintenance. This treatment can be given on day care basis and there is no need to be hospitalized unless some problems develop which need admission.
It is a rule that unless the patient is physically fit for further chemotherapy you can withhold it till the patient is physically fit or if necessary the chemotherapy can be initiated with reduced dose of drugs depending upon the blood count.
