Can Voltarin Cause Elevated Blood Check Level?

My husband takes Warfarin and the last two blood checks, level were very high. 4. 8 and 4.2. He has developed. A plantar fasciaitis and has been rubbing Voltarin gel on it which seems to help. Could the Voltarin be causing this wild increase. .

HI,
warfarin is known to interact with many drugs taken along with them. Whether the metabolism of warfarin is altered by gels or not is not known with proof. In my opinion, it is an unlikely cause of a sudden surge of INR.
INR surges are common and may be because of many factors like food, leafy vegetables and stress apart from drugs. Make sure your food is not meddling with warfarin. If INR remains high after 1 week, you should consider reducing the dose.
hope this helped.
