Can Vitamin Supplements Be Taken While Suffering From Diverticulitis?

Traveling and was given script for cipro from GI doc in case I have GI issues while traveling abroad. Had diverticulitis 4 years ago so very cautious. Wondering if it is safe to take if I feel I have flare up and if so should I discontinue taking supplements ( magnesium, bacillous, and slippery elm herbal).

HI , thanks for using healthcare magic

If you are having symptoms that can be related to a flare up of diverticulitis then it would be best to take the antibiotics.

Diverticulitis can vary from mild to severe. The symptoms may include: (1) pain in the left lower aspect of the abdomen
(2)change in bowel habits
(3)nausea and vomiting
(4)constipation
(5)diarrhea
(6)bloating
(7)passing excess air-

Some or all of these may be present.

IN addition to antibiotics, you may also need a clear liquid diet as well. IN severe cases, may need to hold off eating/drinking for at least 24 hours.

I hope this helps
