Can Vaginal Infection Be Transmitted Through Sex?

I am 45 years old i am 5'2 and i weight 145 lb. my medical history is pretty much ok. I take medication for depression (lexapro) Also( vistril)my question is not related to my condition.I just started a new relationship after two years being single. I have had intimate relations with my new partner one or two weeks i had burning and itching also a odorless discharge. my doctor said i have a bacterial infection i would like to know could that be transmitted seeing that i have never had that before. My partner complained of haveing a burning and itching also showed signs of iritation and used a antifugal cream and his systems cleared up. Can a partner pass vaginal bacteria.

Bacterial vaginosis is a sexually transmitted disease and remain asymptomatic in men and can be transmitted through sexual act.
Other than this some other normal bacterial flora present in one partner can also produce infection in other partner. Example, Honey moon cystitis.
