Can Typhoid Cause Delayed Menstruation?

Hi Doc, I have a question My sister saw her period 14-17th June 2017, had sex 24th June 2017 my fiance, her cycle is usually 27 to 28 days which according to this means she was meant to see her next period 10th or 11th July 2017, prior to this day she was feeling weak, abdominal pain etc which made her go for scan & TVC thinking she was pregnant, but the result showed otherwise. Due to curiosity she went further for blood test (malaria, typhoid and pregnancy), the results showed that she was having typhoid. Now she is treating it and her period is still not seen. Now my questions; 1. Is it possible that she is pregnant but was not detected by these series of scan & blood test. 2. Since it was confirmed that she is not pregnant, why the delay in her cycle, which hasn t occurred before 3. Can typhoid cause delay in menstrual cycle? Thanks My mobile phone 0000

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Periods are affected by hormone levels which can be altered by physical illness or emotional illness/stress.
There are also other causes of delayed period.

Her physical illness, typhoid, is likely affecting her hormone levels and therefore her period.

Pregnancy tests detect the HCG hormone which is detectable by day 11 to 14 after conception.

I hope this helps
