Can Thyroid Problems Cause Weight Loss?

I have steadily loosing weight over last year and low energy, even though I take vitamins and iron. Could my thyroid be causing this. My doctor has changed my dosage from 0.05 to 0.05 and a half, and recently asked that I go to 0.1mg of levoxythine?

Hi thanks for using Healthcaremagic
Thyroid problem can be of different varieties

1.Hypothyroidism
2.Hyperthyroidism

Hypothyroidism means deficiency of thyroid hormones.
Hyperthyroidism means overproduction of thyroid hormone.

Your problem is Hypothyroidism, that's why you are on Levothyroxine.Hypothyroidism can increase body weight, cause lethargy, dry skin. But most of the symptoms can be reduced with proper replacement of Thyroid hormone..

By increasing the dose the problems has to be better. You can check the thyroid profile and ask your doctor to increase the dose if required..

Thank you...
