Can Thyroid Problems Cause Mood Swings And Tiredness?

My question is this. About five years ago I found out I had a very large goiter on my thyroid. I have only had an ultrasound done. I was put on Levothyroxicn which has done its job on brining the sweling down of the goiter. In the past several months off and on I have noticed or seems anyway that it is radiating now to the other side of my thyroid if that makes any sense. i have never really been given any to do s or don ts. Just at the beginning take a pill ot have it removed. Never a biopsy, didn t know if that is something that should have been done or not. My mom seemed to think thats the reason why I m so moody anymore and tired easily at times .

Hello,
I have carefully gone through your report and I can understand your query!
From your describe there seems to be two different pathologies in your thyroid gland:
-Structural pathologies that cause the enlargement of your gland
-Under function of the gland for which you take levothyroxine tablets.

If I were your treating doctor I would suggest you to do an ultrasound of the gland to see the number of the nodules, the dimensions and other characteristics, than to decide if there is any other examination needed or not.
You need also to check the hormonal level (TSH,FT4 and FT3) to see if the dose of the levothyroxine is the right one or your thyroid is still underactive. If so it may be the cause of your symptoms (moody and tired).
Hope the information is helpful.

Kind regards,
Dr.M.Guni
