Can The Use Of Medroxyprogesterone Help Delay Periods?

Is there any way to put off my period through use of medroxyprogesterone. I'm 54 years old and my GYN put me on these for the last 10 days of my cycle to help regulate my period. It was very heavy and my iron hit rock bottom so he is trying to prevent a hysterectomy and hopes I stop having periods. In the mean time my daughter is getting married in Costa Rica and I'm due to have my period that week. If I take the progesterone longer will it delay my period?
