Can Taking Micronor Cause Irregular Periods?

Hi, I took micronor for 10 days only before stopping it due to side effects. I had a mid cycle period at the time of stopping it and have now not taken it for 3 weeks. I have had intercourse after stopping taking it and relied only on withdrawal as a precaution. I have not yet had a period, could the micronor have affected my cycle?

Hallow Dear,

Micronor are Norethindrone pills. If they are to be taken as regular birth control pills, they should be taken regularly. Any drops or irregularity may cause either pregnancy of irregular menses.

It seems you were rather irregular in taking these pills. Moreover, you had unprotected sex. So you do have a possibility of pregnancy leading to this delayed period. If pregnancy is not there, this delay could be due to irregularity in consuming the pills.

So first confirm the status of pregnancy by pregnancy test on the overnight first morning urine sample about a week after missed period; done earlier it may report false negative results. Alternatively you may opt for Beta hCG test on the blood.

If you are not pregnant, you may wait for few days; you will get menses. If the delay in menses is prolonged indefinitely, please report to your Gynaecologist.

I hope this helps you.
