Can Taking Macrobid Be Safe For UTI?

My daughter, age 22, was taking Macrobid for a UTI for the last 4 days. She woke up today with a swollen hand and lip, and hives. She went to pharmacy and took Benadryl. Then went to university health center where they gave her a steroid shot and a prescription. Swelling is better, but she said she feels weak and her body hurts. Please advise. Should she go to er?

allargic reaction has occured to your daughter after taking macrobid.
Macrobid is nitrofurantoin it is an antibiotic used to treat urinary tract infection.
allergic reaction can occur with any drug.
nitrofurantoin is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney disease , previous allergic reaction to nitrfurantoin.
whenever you go to a physician please indicate she is allergic to this medication.
as she has got steroid shot everything will be ok within a day. antihistamines may be needed.
