Can Stress Give You Heart Palpitations?

a freind of mine claims than when stressed they get pains in their arms and chest and go to hospital due to heart palpitaions could this be true?

Stress, caffeine and smoking are major causes of heart palpitations. I had them for several years before a specialist was able to pinpoint the cause. I only had to cut my caffeine down, but it fixed it.
