Can Severe Cold Cause A Spike In The Blood Pressure?
I have a severe cold. I regularly take my prescription of 15 mg of altace every day. Over the last few days, since I got the cold, my blood pressure in THE MORNING HOURS SPIKED TO ABOUT 155-175 OVER 95. This despite a very strict diet that I always keep, consisting mostly of fruits and vegetables. I am not overweight. I am 6 and weigh 177 pounds. Is it possible that my severe cold is related to the recent spike in my blood pressure?
Dear acute cold can't cause much changes but chronic cold may cause hypertension. Few studies shows chronic exposure to cold caused, inflammation in kidneys, hearts, and, blood vessels, as evidenced by increased levels of IL-6 and, TNF- expression and leukocyte infiltration. Interestingly,RNAi knockdown of IL-6 attenuated cold-induced inflammation and elevation of BP, suggesting that that inflammation, plays a vital role in the pathogenesis of CIH and that IL-6 is a key mediator in this process.
