Can Ringing Sensation In Ears Be Due To Tinnitus?

Sex: male
Age: 15 (16 in two weeks)
Weight: About 150
Medical History: Nothing serious.

My question is about tinnitus, constant ringing in my ears. I've had for as long as I can remember, but I really cant remember it ever bothering me until I was about 10 or 11. I also noticed back then when I was chewing gum one day that something in my ears (it was more of a feeling than a noise) was clicking each time my jaw moved up. A clicking noise and feeling occurs everytime I swallow though, except for when Im drinking a full glass of something at once. Its like my throat opens up or something and the clicking stops. But the ringing is constant, no matter where I am.

My mom took me to the doctor and the dentist and they both said that nothing was wrong, and kind of just brushed off the ringing like it wouldnt kill me so it didnt matter. But its really been getting to me lately.

I know stress makes it worse, but the fact that its THERE just stresses me out so i dont know what to do.

The clicking noises and feeling dont bother me really, but the ringing just makes it so hard to focus. I used to love reading and it was how I got my mind off of things all the time, but the tinnitus just makes the words so hard to concentrate on.

I hate it. I was just wondering, from what ive descrived, does this even sound like tinnitus or something completely different?

If it IS tinnitus, ive heard rumors that excessive masturbation can cause it, and I kind of do masturbate often so should I stop? and then will the ringing go away? please help. ive been dealing with this for so long i just want it to stop.

Hi...
I am sorry to hear about your problem and will like to solve it with the best of my knowledge...

As per your query it is appearing that you are suffering from 2 conditions:

1. Ringing in ears that is also known as Tinnitus and can occur due to causes like like ear infection, perforated eardrum, excess ear wax accumulation, Eustachian tube dysfunction, Meniere's disease, Acoustic Neuroma etc.

2.You also seems to have jaw joint problems as clicking and popping sounds on opening and closing the jaw is due to it..

It is not possible that there is nothing wrong and there is definite problem as continuous ringing is not normal nor clicking sounds and both are indicative of any underlying pathology..

You should consult an ENT Surgeon for your ringing problem and he will investigate you by advising tests like Audiometry, MRI scan, x ray etc for confirming the cause..
An oral surgeon should be contacted for diagnosis of your clicking problem..
A full mouth x ray known as Orthopantomogram will be advised to you..

For tinnitus as the underlying cause will be diagnosed and treated, the symptoms will gradually subside..
You can however be given medications like Tricyclic antidepressants like Amitryptalline for reducing tinnitus..
Certain white noise devices and earplugs can be helpful..
Meditation and yoga can reduce stress..

For jaw joint problem you can be given mouth guards, physiotherapy and also medications like painkillers and muscle relaxants if there is pain..

Hope this helps..

Thanks and regards.
