Can Prolonged Abuse Of Cocaine Cause Lymph Node Or Lymphatic Infections?

Hi I was wondering if prolonged abuse of cocaine could cause lymph node or lymphatic infections. I have a friend who has a large swelling under his jaw it has not responded to antibiotics and he has been referred to the hospital. I think this may be a factor??

Hi,

If the swelling is due to infection, then cocaine may be implicated. People who are heavy users of cocaine often scratch themselves a lot when in withdrawal. The sores are liable to get infected which can cause lymph node swelling. However, please keep in mind that the swelling can be due to many other reasons as well. Its good that he has been referred to a hospital as he will need some investigations to find the cause of the swelling.

Hope he gets well soon. Best wishes.
