Can Poly Cystic Kidney Leads To Renal Failure?

my husband is 39 years old, diabetic and hyper tensive and has bilateral poly cystic kidney disease.. it has a non aggressive course.. his creatinine is 185 (n: 120).. normal Na, K, Ca.... and other renal functions.. blood pressure: 135/85 and good controlled diabetis.. i want to ask a bout the fate and if renal failure is a must? and i have 3 children.. should they have the same disease? my husband has 3 other brothers and sisters but he is the only diseased one.. his father had renal failure but was not known to be hypertensive

Polycystic kidney disease runs in families. 50% of children are likely to have the disease. That is probability but in reality all the children can escape the disease or all the children can have the disease.
Looks like your husband had no major elevation of renal parameters at present but he needs to follow up regularly with a good nephrologist. Good control of diabetes and BP is essential for preventing deterioration. You can also make sure your children get at leady an ultrasound of their kidneys periodically. They can be started on a low salt diet to reduce burden on kidneys. That way chances of renal failure can be reduced
