Can Paracetamol Overdose Cause Any Side Effect In Children?

Dear doc. My son age at 2yrs 3mt (weigh @ 12.6kg) was having a slight fever at a body temperature of 38 degrees C. Unfortunately I ve mistakenly giving him 9ml of paracetamol. The paracetamol contain 250mg/5ml suspension. Will there be any side effect for giving an overdose medicine? Please advice me. Thank you.

Hi thanks for your question.
Relax and don't worry. You have given to your child a total of 450 mg of paracetamol, which is not a very large dose. Though children are more susceptible to the toxic effects of paracetamol than the adult due to low level of liver enzyme responsible for disposing the drug from body. The maximum safe dose of paracetamol for childeren is 4 gm that is 4000mg in 24 hours. He may develop some amount of gastritis which can be easily managed by antacids
Hope this answers your question.
