Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 26 years old and a lifelong sufferer of Gender Identity Disorder. I ve recently decided to undergo the process of transition, but I have major congenital heart defects and a pacemaker. It sits where my left breast would develop on Hormone Replacement Therapy. Do I need to have my pacemaker moved? Are they implanted in prepubescent females in the breast region without later adverse affects? If I do need to have it moved will the government cover this procedure as they have all my previous pacemaker replacements, or must I pay for this out of pocket?
hello, Pacemaker battery need to be changed periodically so if breast sits on that, it may cause problem during subsequent surgeries. Also, stretch due to weight of breast may cause it's movement. So it's advisable to move it to just below the clavicle. Also, it may not be covered by govt. as it's indication is not cardiac issue, but something else.
