Can One Fly After Bowel Blockage Surgery?

I had surgery 8 days ago to remove a blockage in my small bowel, it was uncomplicated and I was discharged from hospital today without follow up appointments or medicines. I am due to fly to South Africa in 2 weeks time, is there any reason why I should change my travel plans.

thank you for contacting HCM.

Blood clots are common after the surgery. Blood clots are common after a prolonged travel. that is the main reason why people recommend not go for a prolonged travel after the surgery.

why people get blood clots in this scenario ? It is mainly because of lack of mobility. Blood clots in the legs are not an issue except that they are painful. That clots going into the lungs are life-threatening. most of the times clots form in the legs and then migrate to the lungs.

Traveling to South Africa depends on your length of travel. there is no 100% contraindication for your travel as long as you keep yourself very active. try to spend at least 8 hours every day with active leg movements prior to the travel. During the travel he should do walk in the airplane as much as you can. When you're resting in the seat I would strongly recommend you keep moving her legs. Some of the flight safety videos teaches the leg exercises.

I would once again check with the doctors who did the surgery regarding your follow-ups. If you have a close follow-up please complete that.
