Can Nasal Congestion Impact Smell And Taste?

I recently had the "flu". It started with a dry cough one day, fever and chills the next. The fever broke after a day, but I was coughing and sneezing very hard for two more days. Clear runny nose literally like a faucet for a couple of more days. Then everything started to go away. In that time, I lost my sense of taste and smell. Tye are slowly starting to return after about 7 days. I am feeling fine. However, I am told I sound congested, but I don't feel congested. I am breathing easily through my nose. What would be causing this and could it be impacting my smell and taste?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through you query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain as you have recent history of flu along with runny nose and although you are not feeling congested any more but the loss of sense of taste and smell seems to be due to cold and congestion only.

You need not to worry as gradually the complete recovery of the sense of taste and smell will occur as the infection will subside..

I would suggest you to do steam inhalations, take decongestant nasal sprays and avoid chilled foods..

Do warm compresses around the nose..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
