Hi welcome to HCM.
Mitral valve prolapse even though a relaively benign condition and asymptomatic, has to regularly followed up due to its propensity to cause left heart failure in few individuals. This risk is directly related to the amount of regurgitent flow,it develops over a period of time. This can be carefully and serially monitored through a 2 dimensional echocardiography which can exactly quantify the mitral valve hemodynamics.Treatment for severe regurgitation should include mitral valve repair procedures like Valvuloplasty and Valve replacement.Consult your cardiologist for further queries.
Thank you
