Can Masturbation Hamper The Recovery After Inguinal Hernia Repair?

I anm 59 years old and find that I need to masturbate every three days or my body becomes too tight and bowel movement is restricted. I am due to have an iguinal hernia repair on 19 February and am worried that I may unavoidably hamper my own recovery by masturbating which is a physical need rather than a choice. The hernia does not hurt, probably gets a bit sore after walking for one hour (although the degree to which the soreness has been due to a fungal infection is unclear). The surgeon said that my hernia is not urgent and the risk of strangulation is negligible. I am generally in good health, have supervised gym once a week and attend an indorr cycling class, I an not badly over weight (13st 6lb, 5 ft 10") and have a history of asthma which has been very mild since i have been an adult. it also takes me longer to urinate than it did and I use toilet paper to remove any drips.
Do you think I should ask the Doctors to think about this problem (and perhaps solve this need to masturbate) prior to surgery? I am concerned that they have gone full speed to solve one problem without spending any time considering ancillary issues.

Hello sir and welcome.

In my opinion your hernia could be contributing to this, but only in a very mild manner. The main problem in my opinion is a possibly enlarged prostate. The enlarged prostate is what is causing you to feel the pressure if you do not masturbate for a long time and also the difficulty with urinating. Please request your doctor for an ultrasound of the region with emphasis on your prostate.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
