Can Lower Back Pain, Dark Urine, Dizziness And Fatigue Be Signs Of UTI Or Is It Something Serious?

My father is 74 years old and has recently experienced lower back pain, and frequently using the bathroom. His urine is very dark in color, almost an amber color. He was given UTI meds along with antibiotics tonight. But I am very worried. Could this be a sign of something more serious. He hates going to doctors and I am finding it very difficult to get him to go to one. So far I have made him drink around 5 cups of water today. Im hoping that it is something not too serious. There is no swelling of the feet, but he is complaining of fatigue and dizziness as well. I attributed it to a lack of sleep since this condition started last night and he said he was unable to get any sleep. Please help.

Urologist 's  Response
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your 74 years old father has increased frequency of urination, and passing amber coloured urine.

Considering his age and symptoms there is possibility of him having enlarged prostate .
However this can be confirmed only on clinical and digital rectal examination by a qualified Urologist.and following basic tests.
1) Urine routine and Urine culture
2) Ultrasound scanning of the abdomen.
Please convince him for investigations.
In the mean while give him broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefotaxime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkaliser thrice daily.and later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.
Thanks and Regards.
