Can Limited Kidney Function Cause Blood Poisoning And Damage To Other Organs?
Hi there, My question is about Possible side effects of an Overdose of Vancomycin IV treatment. The overdose was only over 5 days and our son was a type 1 diabetic. He was beginning to respond to Minocycline when it was decided to swap to Vancomycin (Loading dose 1310mg and maintenance dose 491.25mg). 4.5 days later the overdose was detected & treatment stopped. His creatinine / eFGR readings went from 174 / 38 to 450 / 12 within 26 days of the beginning of treatment then slowly began to fall and returned to the low 200’s / 30 within 21 days of the worst readings. Following that for the next 16 weeks his readings have been very erratic and fluctuating from the low 200 / 30 to 236 / 36. My direct question is can one month of extremely limited kidney function cause blood poisoning and/ or damage other organs, and what might be a likely outcome of such damage? Are you in a position to answer a question like this (opinion only) and what is it going to cost me?
