Can Lactose Intolerance Cause Swollen Adenoids In Children?

Can milk allergy cause swollen adenoids?

My son is 2 years old. I suspect that his adenoids are enlarged, since he started snoring heavily at night (again). It was happenning a few months ago, along with vomitting. I tried eliminating milk from his diet, since he vomited only when given milk. The vomitting, mucus buildup, and the snoring/breathing blockage stopped as well. Then about 2 weeks ago, I tried giving him organic milk. He vommitted shortly after given the milk, and that night, the snoring started up again after being gone for several months. I talked to his pediatric nurse, but she only littles the problem by saying that often children get a cold, and vomits because of the mucus. But my observation is that he only gets mucus and vomits when he drinks MILK. He does not have a cold, per say.

Please let me know whether you have experienced swollen adenoids due to milk allergy. He will see his pedi on Friday, but I'm afraid that my 'masters degree' in 24 hour individual motherhood observation will once again be overlooked by general text book cases.

Also, he has had allergy symptoms, like constant running eyes and nose since birth. However he has not been diagnosed, since his pedi had said he was too young to be diagnosed as such, when I addressed the matter. I will also set an appt for an allergy specialist.

Thanks for posting on HealthCareMagic. Adenoids are lymphoid organs that are responsible for handling the immunity. When the body wrongly identifies an otherwise non harmful agent as harmful and lodges immune attack on it, hypersensitivity or allergy results. In many children the adenoids get enlarged and these children tend to have recurrent infections.
On the other hand, many children have milk allergy which is different from lactose intolerance. The latter is caused due to deficiency of an enzyme that breaks down lactose of milk. In any case these have no direct correlation with swollen adenoids but can coexist.
Giving milk to your 2 year old is not mandatory and you can shift to rice based diet without any milk. Alternatively you can give him lactose free formula like zerolac.

Hope that helps. Feel free to revert back with further queries if any.
