Can Inhaling Large Amount Of Water Cause Pneumonia?

I accidentally inhaled a large gulp of water while drinking. Will it affect me in any negative ways? What can i do? I have been burping up water, and coughing up small amounts, but i know it is not any amount compared to how much i inhaled. Will this make me sick, impair my breathing, or cause pneumonia? Or should i just not worry about it? I am an asthma patient, so this topic really concerns me.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Inhaling water in lungs accidentally is expelled by trachea and cillia present in lungs. Rest of the the water is absorbed in bronchii. However you should take precaution if you develop fever or symptoms of Respiratory breathlessness then you should consult to chest specialist.
Take Care
