Can I Use Surgical Spirit For Folliculitis On My Forehead?

Hi,
I have folliculitis on my forehead. I have had the bumps for 3 months now - it started after a threading session. I went to see a dermatologist and she confirmed that the bumps were caused by an infection of the hair follicles. She prescribed me with an antibiotic called clarithromycin. The appearance of the bumps have improved but the 2 week course of antibiotics is almost over. Can I use anything such as surgical spirit on it?

Hello dear,

I am Dr. Anshul Varshney. I have read your query and understood your concern.

For folliculitis you need to take oral antibiotics which you have already taken.

Alongwith topical antibiotics can be needed like you can apply 2% mupirocin on the lesions twice daily.

Surgical spirit will cause irritation of the skin on the applied part.

I will advice you to apply antibiotic cream rather than surgical spirit.
