Can I Take Ibuprofen For Irregular Pulse Rate And Palpitations?

I am a woman aged 66 and I have sciatica, I have taken paracetamol but it does not take all the pain away and it soon gets worse again, I have at times an irregular pulse rate, I have been tested twice in the last ten years and both times I was told that there is nothing wrong with my heart it is just an ectopic beat or palpitations and that I should not worry. Is it safe for me to take 600mg ibuprofen?.

Hi welcome to HCM.
Yes absolutely you can take 600 mg of ibuprofen for the pain control of your sciatica. This drug has no interactions or side effects of causing irregular heart rates. These palpitations in your case can be due to lone atrial fibrillation. This does not need any therapy unless there any compelling indications to do so.Have a baseline EKG and a complete thyroid profile since Hypothroidism can at times lead to irregular pulse.A 24hr Holter ECG can accurately quantify these palpitations and indicate the need for treatment of these ectopics.Consult your doctor for further queries.
Thank you
