Can I Substitute Fertomid With Clomid After Finishing First Cycle Of Fertomid?

Hi, I am a 32 year old woman, 1,7 meters and weighing 80 kg. The Gyna prescribed Clomid and since i could not access it, i got a replacement of Fertomid.I finished my first cycle of Fertomid on 2 December 2013. Is it possible to shift to clomid once it is available in the pharmacy or should i keep using Fertomid? I would also like to know if it is possible to get pregnant on the first dose? i am desperate to have my first baby.

Kindly advise

Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Keep using Fertomid as you are already taking it.
Basically the preparation is the same.
Do not change the generic midway.
Also, on clomiphene, more than 30 % of women ovulate, and more than half manage to conceive with cumulative 3 - 6 cycles of therapy.
The success rate obviously depends on the attendant complications present.
If your tubes are blocked / ovulation is faulty despite stimulation / partner's semen count is low / ovarian reserve is suboptimal - then Clomid / Fertomid might not work.
So you need a complete evaluation for the cause of the subfertility.
MEanwhile, complete the dosage and have follicular monitoring scans to know about the ovulation status and days of intercourse when chances of success are high.
Take regular folic acid.
All the best.
