Can I Breastfeed With A Tooth Infection?

Hello, I am currently breastfeeding my 2 month old son, and have just discovered that I have a severe abscess above my gum that is purple and very painful. It's now made my lypth nodes swollen on one side and is very painful and is certainly infected. Can this infection from this tooth abscess go into my breast milk and make my baby sick in any way?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain dental infections are caused by bacteria and to enter the breast milk the bacteria should enter the mother's blood and from there it can be transferred to the milk and if the count is high then it can cause illness or infection in the infant..
If the infection would have entered the blood you would have certainly be showing symptoms like fever, and lethargy..
But as it is not the case you can continue breast feeding and the infection seems localized..
But as the lymph nodes have now been involved you should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and the treatment of the infection should be done..
Taking antibiotics safe during breastfeeding and getting proper treatment for the cause of infection can relieve your pain and infection as well as prevent further spread of infection.
