Can Hypertension Medicine, Lisinopril, Cause Thyroid Related Problems?

I began taking Lisinopril about 2 years ago after my insurance carrier suggested it would be cheaper. I asked my doctor and we tried the new med. It seemed to work. About a month ago, I noticed a swelling in my neck. I have had bloodwork Wwhich came back normal for thyroid), a thyroid ultrasound (showed multiple nodules), and a thyroid scan and uptake (uptake normal and nodules seem OK). My doctor suggested to wait and see him in 6 months. However, I now wonder if the lisinopril could be causing thyroid problems. I am female and 58 years old, 5ft. 3 in, 180 pounds. High blood pressure runs in my family. I've taken blodd pressure meds for about 15 years.

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello and thank you for the query.
I have gone carefully through your concern.
Keep calm because Lisinopril does not thyroid nodules.
In most of the cases they are inherited. So you should have a family member that probably is not diagnosed.
Anyway, it is a very common finding in the thyroid ultrasound.
If there is no increase of the nodules after 6 months, there is nothing to get worried about.
Hope i have been helpful.

Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
