Can High Anxiety Lead To An Increase In The Blood Pressure Levels?

Hi- I ve been feeling much anxiety due to a reverse shoulder replacement I will have March 28. My b.p. Has been around180/93 on the average. I was put on metolopol and lonsartan.. Can anxiety effect b.p? Also, what b.p. Tool do you prefer to check b.p? A cuff or wrist to use at home? Thank-you. I am 67 yrs. old. Gale

Hello and thank you for using HCM.

I understand your concern. Yes, anxiety does negatively affect your blood pressure, so trying to decrease stress and anxiety through relaxation techniques, meditation and light physical activity, in addition to your b.p medication should be your primary concern. Also eating a healthy, age appropriate diet is very important.
I recommend the good old fashioned cuff when measuring your blood pressure, as this is more accurate the the wrist one.

Wishing you good health and good luck with your surgery.
