My sed rate is over 100 - and I m off balance - it s really hard for me to walk - would the high rate cause the balance issues - I ve been to several rheumotologists at the request of my eye doctor as he believes I have Giant Cell Art. - had the temporal biopsy - which came back negative to giant cell - I lost my eye-sight - but now concerned about my balance. Just looking for answers - anthony
The SED rate is a nonspecific test that indicates the presence of some kind of inflammation. In itself it does not cause balance problems. However, whatever is causing the balance problems could be causing the high sed rate. I am concerned that your balance problems and eyesight loss could be related to an inflammatory condition going on in your brain. It could be a vasculitis which would be similar to giant cell arteritis but would not necessarily show up on a temporal arterybiopsy. A search needs to be made for the cause of the very high SED. With your balance and visual problems, I would be considering an MRI/MRA of your brain. See a neurologist, who specializes in nerve and brain problems. Hope this helps.
