Can Height Be Increased After The Age Of 17?

Hello Doctor, i have question about height. Im 17 years old and 5 9 tall. My dad is short, between 5 4 and 5 5 , i don t know exactly. My mom height is almost same like mine, about 1cm less then me. My question is, can i grow to 5 11 maybe? I have tall uncle for example (6 4 ) and my grandpa was tall. From 16 to 17 i grow 3-4cm and can i get growth spurt maybe? To mention im in early 17. In primary school i was shorter then others, not all of them but in my class and i catch them on end. Maybe i can grow taller for period of 17-18 to 5 11 like i want? Again to mention im in early 17 and it s only 2 inches that i need. I drink a lot of milk, eat protein food, use whey protein, doing exercies, sometimes stretching, sleep well. Thank you for listening.

Hello dear,

First of all, please do not get influenced by any advertisement or health product which claim to boost your growth hormone & increase height...it may be harmful.

Height of an individual is determined by Genetics, Environmental & Nutritional factors and Hormonal factors (most important the Growth Hormone secreted by pituitary gland in brain)
An individual stops growing in height after the fusion of the Epiphyses (growth plates) of the long bones, which occurs by the age of 17-21 yrs in males.

So...as you are 17 years old now, there is good chance of further increase in height.
An X ray for bone age determination can be taken to look for the fusion of epiphyses.

Make sure that you are taking a healthy & balanced diet, exercise regularly & avoid stress.
Protein rich diet like soya, groundnut, pulses, etc should be incorporated in your diet plan.

Wishing you Good Health.
Take care.
