Can Heavy Usage Of Marijuana Cause Vein To Collapse?

I often draw blood from people brought in for DUI and drugs by law enforcement officers. I usually do not have much difficulty with veins. A young woman was brought in for a blood drawing for marijuana and her veins collapsed at the first several attempts. Is it possible that her heavy marijuana use caused the veins to collapse?

I just want to know.

Thanks

Hi,

It is possible that she may have been dehydrated, which is very common in people on drugs. Dehydration can make it really difficult to draw blood samples. She also might have been an intravenous drug user. Just smoking marijuana per se should not have caused this.

Best wishes.
