Can Having Plan B Effect The Menstrual Cycle?

Hi doc, I had plan B on Sep 29th, then my period came on Oct 5th, I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend on 13Oct, which is one day after my period, will I get pregnant? The thing is I have very irregular period all the time, and the Plan B could mess up it. SO I am very worrying about it. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the question and I am happy to help.

PlanB is very effective at preventing pregnancy. That being said, it is not 100% effective. After taking PlanB, it is normal to have breakthrough bleeding in the days after which is possibly what you experienced on 10/5. In fact, one way that PlanB works is by forcing a delay in ovulation which certainly could have been pushed back to 10/13. So you need to check a pregnancy test now and again in one and two weeks. Also, find a doctor who can help you get onto birth control to regulate your cycle and prevent unplanned pregnancy.

I hope that this helps and good luck!
