Can Flying With Ear Infection Cause Permanent Hearing Loss?

I am in las vegas and need to get back to my home in montreal canada. I have an ear infection that does not seem to be clearing up despite 5 days of antibiotics. I have seen two doctors in a clinic and was referred to the er. The er doctos were unable to see the eardrum clearly. Right now I canot hear from the ear at all. The doctors think this is due to fluid and not a perforated eardrum. I am now scheduled on a direct flight to montreal tomorrow, but am wonderiing if it would be sfaer to drive? I do not want to have any permanent hearing loss

Hello
Thank you for trusting HCM

Dear If you do fly with an ear infection or if your Eustachian tubes are clogged, you may experience some unusual symptoms. While the most common symptom will be severe pain due to the pressure changes in the cabin, you may also experience vertigo. Another symptom you may experience during a flight is tinnitus, which is a ringing in the ears. Tinnitus can also cause a temporary loss of hearing. Due to the pressure placed on the ears during a flight, it is possible that the tympanic membranes, or the eardrums, may rupture if your Eustachian tubes are severely clogged.

There is compulsory to fly with ear infection follow below advice.

1.take decongestants before during and after flying. Better to start taking decongestants 1day before flying, keep decongestant spray with you while flying.
2.swallow frequently while flying.
3.pooping frequently can decrease pain equalize ear pressure.
4 . use pressure regulating ear plugs while flying..

Please consult your doctor before day of flying he will examine and treat you accordingly.
