Can Exposure To Pin Worm Infection Harm The Fetus?

Please help - I have a friend staying with me at the moment, and my wife is pregnant. I have only just found out that my friend has recently had Pinworm - I know he has seen a doctor for treatment, but I do not know how long ago that was, and I am extremely concerned that he may still be infectious and that the worms could harm my un-born child - PLEASE HELP!!

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If he has been treated then it is not likely that your wife would be infected. The baby is also not likely to be infected either.

Pinworms would be spread fecal oral, this means from stool to mouth. If present in the stool and the person does not wash his/her hands appropriately and prepares food for someone else, then spread may occur.

If your friend is not preparing your wife's food then there should be no problem.

I hope this helps
