Can Exercising Cause A Delay In Periods?

Hello, My Girlfriend is delayed for few months now. Our last unsafe intercourse was around dec 13 and she didnt bled for atleast a month since then. but on the 2nd week of January she got her period. The problem is she didnt got her period since then upto now. So we re kind of not sure what s happening. we took 3 pregnancy test back on december when she first encountered the 1month delay. but all of them were negative. thankfully the following day was when she bled. We were wondering what causes this? we haven t got intercourse since december 13. She cannot make a scheduled appointment as she is currently overseas and does not trust the doctors their. COuld it be because she started to do some workout? she started a crossfit type of workout starting january but she lay-low recently when she findout that workout is common cause of delay. can you please help us? thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Exercise or doing physical workouts doesn't affect periods. Hence, the problem for delay in periods could be due to something internal like hormonal imbalance, which needs to be determined and treated.
She has to get the following investigations work-up done.
1. Blood levels of hormones: FISH, LH and TSH.
2. Ultrasound scan of the abdomen.
She needs to consult Gynecologist with the reports for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
Regards,
